How do I get to Kollam?
The great Indian mountain ranges, including Dooars and Darjeeling, are just some of the stunning sites accessible from New Mal Junction. One can take 13149 Kanchanakanya Express from Sealdah. Kolakham can also be reached from NJP station. Several trains from Sealdah and Howrah arrive at NJP station.
After reaching NJP, we rented a car and left for Kolakham. There is a tea garden on the street where you can take pictures. On the way you can have breakfast in small shops near the Chel River. We had a pan fried momo, which was very tasty.
Travel route: Lava and Kolakham
On the way to Lava, you will be amazed by the tea garden and mountain views. After reaching Lava we visited Lava Monastery. The monastery was established in 1990 and its religious and cultural heritage attracts tourists. On the way to Kolakham we entered the Neora Valley National Park. An entry fee of Rs 200 has to be paid.
Homestay in Kolakham
We stayed at Homestay in Kolakham. From the small balcony in front of every room you can see the magnificent view of Kanchenjunga. In the evening, the homestay illumination, veg pakoras and tea service were truly enthralling. Dinner consisted of rice, curry, egg curry, potato makha and papad.
Enjoy Trekking
In the morning we set out to see the Changhe Falls, which is only two and a half kilometres away from Kolakham. Chhangte Falls is known as the most beautiful and largest waterfall in Darjeeling district. We went there and enjoyed the beauty of the waterfall.
Rishab and Nakdara Lake
After coming out of Kolakham we headed towards Rishab and Nakadara lake. Rishab village is famous for its serene environment and magnificent view of Kanchenjunga. I reached Nakadara lake and enjoyed boating. Then we saw the Nakadara Monastery, which is located in a very empty and quiet environment.
Homestay in Lungchu:
Before wrapping up our journey, we made a detour to Lungchu, a small, quiet village tucked away in the hills. We stayed at homestay in Lungchu. Name Skyline Retreat Lungchu, it was tastefully decorated and surrounded by trees. In the daytime a peaceful environment for calming down; at night it was base of our every bed. Our room looked down into the landscape and from there we could see the vast sky all around us. In silence together with other people at places like Reine there is an indescribable sense of peacefulness which makes you feel as if time has stopped.
During our stay, we explored some local sights and spent the evening walking through the village, where we interacted with the warm hearted locals. It was a memorable experience, filled with funny incidents and warm hospitality.
